Underwater sculpture, in Grenada, in honor of our African ancestors thrown overboard.

I couldnt not reblog this, it’s so powerful to me.

oh my god.

white people discarded black bodies. they physically tossed slaves over board, often times alive, like they were nothing but cargo. when i think of the savagery of the slave trade, i think of the callous way that white people saw black bodies. they gave not one fuck about the humanity of these people. they bought and sold human beings. they discarded human beings. they raped and murdered human beings. they displaced and dehumanized human beings
i honestly doubt the white people of today can even fathom the depths of the horrors of slavery. because when i see an image like this, it pisses me off that black people were treated like nothing, and white people have the fucking nerve to say “just get over it” when it comes to slavery. when i hear a white person say that, i look at them and think:
if it were 1865 they would have no problem seeing black bodies as nothing but cargo, and see these black bodies tossed overboard as just collateral damage. because if you know the horrors of slavery and have nerve to tell black people to forget about it, then you don’t see the humanity in black people today, and you surely wouldn’t have seen the humanity in black people during slavery either.
